【Updated August 14】Operating Status and Transporta

We would like to express our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake.

Our thoughts are with all those who continue to face uncertainty, and we sincerely hope for everyone’s safety and for the earliest possible recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas.

■ Operating Status of Our Properties in the Kurokawa Onsen Area

Following the earthquake, our group has conducted inspections of the buildings, facilities, utilities, and other essential infrastructure at each property.

At this time, no damage that would significantly affect guest accommodations or services has been identified, and the following three properties are operating as usual:

  • Gekkoju Kurokawa

  • Yunosako no Hibiki Yusai

  • Yusai Annex

As we have received many inquiries from guests regarding our operating status and transportation access, we would like to provide information on the main routes to the Kurokawa Onsen area.

■ For Guests Traveling by Car

◆ From Fukuoka / Saga

Guests traveling from Fukuoka or Saga can reach Kurokawa Onsen without passing through Kumamoto City by taking the following route:

Dazaifu IC

↓ Kyushu Expressway

Tosu JCT

↓ Oita Expressway

Hita IC

↓ Toward National Route 212

Kurokawa Onsen / Our Properties

This is one of the standard main access routes recommended by the Kurokawa Onsen Ryokan Association.

The closure of the Kyushu Expressway between Matsubase IC and Ebino IC, which had remained in effect following the earthquake, was lifted at 6:00 a.m. on August 14. The entire Kyushu Expressway is now open to traffic.

The above route from Fukuoka and Saga via Hita IC does not pass through the affected section.

◆ From Oita / Beppu / Yufuin

From Oita and Beppu, the recommended route to Kurokawa Onsen is via the Oita Expressway and Kokonoe IC.

From Yufuin, the main route is via the Yamanami Highway toward Senomoto and then onward to Kurokawa Onsen.

◆ From Kumamoto City / Aso Kumamoto Airport

From Kumamoto City or Aso Kumamoto Airport, travel toward Aso and proceed to Kurokawa Onsen via the Milk Road (Prefectural Route 339).

The section of the Kyushu Expressway between Mashiki Kumamoto Airport IC and Matsubase IC, which had been closed following the earthquake, reopened in both directions at 9:04 a.m. on July 30.

Please note that lane restrictions may still be implemented in some sections due to ongoing restoration work.

◆ From Miyazaki

According to NEXCO West Japan, the following section, which had remained closed due to the effects of the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake, reopened at 6:00 a.m. on August 14:

[Road Closure Lifted]

Kyushu Expressway: Matsubase IC – Ebino IC (both directions)

As a result, routes via the Miyazaki Expressway and Kyushu Expressway (Ebino IC – Matsubase IC – Kumamoto area) are now accessible.

However, due to damage to Kawata Bridge between Miyahara SA and Yatsushiro IC, two-way traffic restrictions remain in effect, and congestion may occur depending on the time of day.

If you wish to avoid congestion, you may also consider traveling via the Nobeoka Road and Kitakata-Nobeoka Road, then proceeding toward Kurokawa Onsen via Aso and Senomoto.

Whichever route you choose, please check the latest traffic conditions before departure.

■ For Guests Using Public Transportation

◆ From Fukuoka / Hakata

The Fukuoka–Kurokawa Onsen bus service resumed normal operations on August 4.

Reservations are required. The journey between Fukuoka and Kurokawa Onsen takes approximately three hours, with three round trips (six services) per day.

Our properties are within walking distance of the Kurokawa Onsen bus stop.

◆ From Kumamoto / Aso / Yufuin / Beppu

Some services of the Kyushu Odan Bus, which connects Kumamoto, Kurokawa Onsen, Yufuin, and Beppu, are suspended through August 31.

Some services are scheduled to operate; however, please check the latest operating information and timetable provided by Kyushu Sanko Bus before traveling.
